What does sustainable furniture mean?

The key reason for sourcing sustainable furniture is to benefit the environment. Furniture made from recyclable materials will last a lifetime but also ensure that manufacturing processes are kind to the environment and produce as little carbon emissions as possible and having sustainable furniture in your home is hugely beneficial long-term. 

Not only is it important to think about where materials come from and how they are produced, the durability of furniture is also a key point to consider. Good quality furniture offers a much longer lifespan and therefore benefits the environment by reducing unnecessary landfill waste.

The handcrafted products are currently made by 35+ artisan groups in 15 countries, giving a platform to over 13,000 makers. 

Lick

Lick makes decorating easy with a wide range of eco-friendly paint, wallpaper and supplies. All of their paint is water-based and low VOC (volatile organic compound), which means fewer harmful chemicals and a more easily biodegradable end product. Their wallpaper is FSC certified so it is sustainably sourced and felled from forests around Europe. Even their packaging can be recycled up to 7 times and is 100% biodegradable. But, it doesn’t stop there. Reducing environmental impact is at the forefront of whatever Lick does and so they have partnered with ‘4ocean’ to remove plastic from our oceans, and ‘One Tree Planted’ to restore our forests. As of 31st May 2021, Lick customers have contributed to 29,413kg plastic removed from the ocean and 6,914 trees planted!

The company also plants a tree through the World Land Trust with every purchase.
